Can I Use T Rated Tires Instead of H

  • #ii

The merely problem you lot will accept is if y'all drive for long periods of fourth dimension at speeds over 118 MPH.

Only other departure I've been told about (and noticed myself) is that construction of T rated tires may exist different than H rated tires, which may affect ride and treatment. I briefly had Michelin Free energy Saver tires on my wagon which were T rated. Although they rode well and were serenity, the traction and handling was bottomless. I got rid of them afterwards about 5K.

This may not be true for all T rated tires, but it may be worth checking out.

I fabricated the switch to down-rated tires at one time equally I needed something with longer wear and it was impossible (at the fourth dimension) to detect that at the original rating. Never had any issues.

If you take a vehicle inspection requirement, you should make certain you lot won't have any issues passing inspection. Our state vehicle inspection program started requiring that tires at to the lowest degree meet the original equipment rating. I think it was in response to the Ford Explorer/Firestone debacle several ago.

For what it'south worth, I'm running Goodyear Assurance Comfortred tires which meet the original rating and have a 90K rating. If you lot're looking at the Defender I suspect these would work for you lot. I'k at 337K miles and have tried a few types of tires during that fourth dimension.

For the blazon of driving I'one thousand doing (90% highway and non aggressively) they're keen. I detect them to be a counterbalanced tire. They're not LRR tires just I'one thousand happy with my mileage, they're serenity, handle well and not too stiff. When it's time to replace them (assuming I notwithstanding have the Passat) I volition supersede with the same product. I take xv" wheels. If y'all've got larger wheels your experience might exist dissimilar.

Simply for comparing, when I was running down-rated I tried the Assurance Tripletred and would not use them again.

I problem with the Defenders is that they are fairly new for Michelin. At that place simply are non a lot of reviews for the tire and, in full general, online reviews are very subjective, to say the least. There are other brand LLR tires out there, and maybe with some inquiry, yous can detect a brand with the H or Five load rating that suits your fancy, if that's a concern.

Getting maximum miles out of a set of tires is ordinarily a stretch since it could take years in some cases. Plus, like the 5 year old Michelin Hydroedge tires that I had on my Jetta with 86,000 miles on them, they were very noisy and two were cupped at that mile mark. I replaced them with Kumho Ecsta Platinum series (a 60,000 mile tire) and the car handles fine and is quiet once more. But, that's all relative to the 5 year old, almost rotted, cupped Michelin's that were on there. At that point, almost any new tire would take been an improvement! Peradventure in a couple of years and some miles logged, I won't like the Kumho'south!;)

Just wondering if anyone had gone from a tire with an H speed rating (130mph) to one with a T speed rating (118mph) on their Passat? I am because moving from the Michelin Primacy to the Michelin Defender because it is a LRR tire, and likewise has a 90K warranty.

Why not get the Defender in H rating? Still has the 90k mile warranty. It'southward too bachelor in the V rating, just with 80k mile warranty. And the Primacy MXV4 is available every bit LRR in the H-rating, albeit still with the 60k mile warranty. But it's a pilus cheaper and has better temp rating than the Defender.

I would merely I have xv-inch wheels on my car and the 195/65R15 is only offered with a T rating. Also, for some reason the 91H Primacy MXV4 is not LRR in that size.

It did occur to me afterward my mail that I was making a big assumption you had the aforementioned xvi" wheels as I practice, and there might be differences in the other sizes.

Practiced luck with whatever you get with. Like others have said, I don't think information technology'due south a big deal with T vs. H. If it were me, I'd probably be more focused on temp & traction ratings than LRR anyhow. And price, of course...

I don't know that my B5 Variant tin can go by 118 MPH. As well, I think it is illegal in most states.

I don't remember fifteen wheels have the same precise feel as a good tire on a 17 rim and then it may be noticeably less precise with a softer sidewall. Possibly those with 15'southward can annotate as to their experience with stiffer tires vs T

Tires are an expanse where many people tend to skimp and I only don't go it!?!?!?! The tires are the ONLY part of the auto that actually touches the footing. Personally I attempt to purchase the all-time tires possible for all my vehicles, and I do my best to have care of them with proper alignment and rotation.

It drives me crazy when I meet places like Pep Boys advertise iv tires for $99!!! Come on people, that equals less than $fifty per pair, and virtually people pay that much for a pair of shoes, why would they be willing to trust their lives and the lives of loved ones in the machine every bit well as strangers in other cars to tires that cost $25 each and are expected to last for at least a couple years!!! It is simply crazy.

I'chiliad not saying the OP is trying to be inexpensive, merely many people practice inexpensive out on TIRES for their cars!!! Buy skilful ones and be happy and safe out in that location!!!

My Passat has really seen nearly 130 MPH, and then I judge no tire downgrades for me. :p
